The Shoe of Hope Program was started in 2006 by Dina Bell-Laroche, the founder and president of Samaritan’s Feet SA. The program provides new shoes to children from poor backgrounds. It aims to improve the self-esteem of these children and give them a sense of hope.
Children are happy to receive new shoes. They are often excited to show them off to their friends. Some of the children who have received new shoes have never had a pair of new shoes before.

This latest distribution of new girls school shoes took place at Yellowwood Primary School in Cape Town. This week, the school is one of four to receive new shoes from Samaritan’s Feet SA.
Some of the pupils at the school were excited to receive their new shoes. One pupil, Mpumelelo Mfeka, said that he was “happy to get new shoes because my old ones were torn.” Another pupil, Zama Nkosi, said that she was “excited to have new shoes because I didn’t have any.”
The distribution of new shoes is part of Samaritan’s Feet SA’s broader mission to help underprivileged children in South Africa.

Ceceline Seale, a community worker, approached Samaritan’s Feet SA to distribute shoes at her school. She said she was “pleased” that the organisation had agreed to help her school.
“Some of our pupils come to school without shoes, and it’s difficult for them to participate in activities,” she said. “I’m glad that Samaritan’s Feet SA is helping us to change that.”
